Enhancing maintenance, repair and reliability in remote and urban settings

Ophthalmic technicians are the backbone of eye care equipment maintenance and repairs making sure that instruments function optimally across various clinical settings. Scan Optics’ products are widely used in Australia and more than 120 countries worldwide, including urban settings such as hospitals and clinics, rural communities, remote field clinics, or for mobile units, including outreach programs in underdeveloped regions where infrastructure is limited or even non-existent.

In addition, aid organisations often rely on these instruments to provide essential eye care services in remote communities, where access to specialised healthcare is a challenge. In urban hospitals and well-equipped facilities in city areas, the emphasis shifts to the speed of repairs, as minimising equipment downtime is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of high-volume practices.

Advanced ophthalmic technology built for ease of maintenance and real-word adaptability

Scan Optics ophthalmic instruments are designed and manufactured for eye care specialists, ensuring they are high-performing instruments and user-friendly for patient care, with technicians in mind for ease of maintenance. With key features such as modular design, robust construction, and portability, Scan Optics products simplify maintenance and repair, making them ideal for technicians to operate in diverse eye care settings.

Easy maintenance

There is a possibility of high temperatures and humidity between operating sessions, and a strong possibility of rust and corrosion of microscope components.  Bearing this in mind all Scan Optics microscope parts are made of stainless steel, non-ferrous metal or engineering grade plastics. None of Scan Optics microscope parts are made of mild steel like other brands of microscopes.

In many rural areas, mains power may not be reliable.  Most Scan Optics microscopes provide the ability to operate from a 12V car battery.  The microscope can be operated from mains power with a car battery connected, and if the mains power fails the car battery comes in automatically.

Many operating rooms in rural areas of tropical countries are not air conditioned, or are air conditioned only during surgical sessions.  At other times the temperature and humidity can be high, and mould can destroy optical surfaces within a few days if not protected. In order to stop this from happening all Scan Optics microscopes are fitted with anti mould pellets (these should be replaced every three years)

Durability and reliability

Scan Optics equipment is designed to be appropriate for the conditions of surgery in locations where the equipment must be transported to the place of surgery, where mains power may be unreliable, where service and maintenance must be carried out by the user, and where mould and corrosion are often a problem. The company specialises in delivering equipment to remote locations and maintaining it after delivery.

Supporting swift repairs and easy calibration in all settings

Scan Optics’ microscopes are designed for easy calibration and quick maintenance, with accessible components that can be ordered and then adjusted on-site. This user-friendly design ensures technicians can keep the equipment in top working order with minimal effort.

User manuals to support technicians

Every Scan Optics product comes with high-quality user manuals and product documentation. These materials provide in-depth information on product features, usage instructions, and maintenance guidelines, ensuring you have all the information required to maximise the value of your equipment.
